It’s really easy to come home, sit around the dinner table, and talk about the crazy distracted drivers we see on the road. It’s easy to complain and then walk away from the subject hoping you are never involved in the danger that can come from it.
Distractions were responsible for vehicle crashes leading to 3,179 deaths and 431,000 injuries in 2014, according to the most recent data provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Distracted driving is a serious problem. I am over just having the “easy” conversations filled with complaints. I am ready to do something about it!
Did you know, ten percent of all drivers 15 to 19 years old involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted at the time of the crashes. This age group has the largest proportion of drivers who were distracted at the time of the crashes. (NHTSA)
My senior role model team and I are ready to DO SOMETHING! We are taking the pledge – IT CAN WAIT! All of us are putting our phones down while driving and focusing on the road we are on!!
Let’s be honest. This is not going to be easy. I myself have been distracted driving before. Unfortunately, I have looked at a text while driving, and I have tried to respond to a text while driving. But I know this impacts me, my boys, and the people on the road with me. I am being irresponsible and I need to change! I know that IT CAN WAIT.
